Winter-Spring Pasture-raised Egg Share
– $136 –
2 dozen eggs at each pickup. 22 dozen eggs total. These are the best eggs you can buy. Yolks are deep orange, and they hold together in the frying pan. They are simply delicious.
Our layers are moved around on pasture and range freely from movable chicken trailers within a movable electric fenced area. They are allowed to range during the day and are shut in at night to protect them from predators. They lay eggs in egg boxes inside the trailers every morning and sleep on roosts inside the trailers every night. Our Great Pyrenees guard dog–Molly–lives with the chickens and helps to keep them safe from foxes, coyotes and birds of prey in the farther reaches of the farm.
Chickens eat plenty of forage, bugs, extra vegetables, and freshly milled soy-free non-GMO grain during the growing season. In the winter season their diet consists of extra vegetables, alfalfa haylage, corn silage, food scraps and freshly milled grain. Their yolks are deep orange all winter long!
We really love raising chickens in this way, and look forward to expanding this portion of our business.
Our Egg Share is a discounted way to get these eggs. If you miss a week of your egg share, you can catch up the next week.
In 2018-19 we will be sourcing eggs from our good friends at Wholesome Living Acres and Open Book Farm, who follow the same growing practices and have the best eggs around.
