We are excited to announce that we are opening registration for the Winter CSA this week. As you will see there are a few changes as we move into the winter season.
For those of you new to the Winter CSA here are the ways in which it differs from the summer: We deliver every other week in the winter instead of weekly. This means that the produce share is designed to last 2 weeks, instead of one as in the summer. Egg share members will pick up 2 dozen eggs at each distribution. The meat, cheese and chicken shares are distributed at the first pick up of each month, just like in summer.
*As the calendar falls we would have a Wednesday pick up on New Years Eve. We will reschedule this pick up to a more convenient day.
We are proud of the fact that we are able to operate our farm year-round. Through greenhouse production and root crop storage we are always looking at ways to diversify and expand our winter offerings. This year we have had a bumper crop of potatoes and judging by what is popping up in the soil I think we will have a nice offering of other root crops like sweet potatoes, carrots, beets and more! We also have planted a huge crop of winter cabbage and are excited about how that will expand our offerings of winter greens. Later in the fall we will be filling our high tunnels with spinach and kale for the winter.
All members will notice a few changes we’ve made this season that will be good for the overall sustainability of the farm and the farmers.
1) We are no longer offering the Frozen Meals Share. We have had some great feedback this season on the meals themselves, and we are really happy about the way they turned out. We will continue to offer prepared foods made from our products by our partners at La Prima Catering. And you don’t have to purchase any other shares to stay on our email list and swing by the pick up to see what we have for sale each week.
2) There are slight changes in the pick up times. Arlington and Alexandria distributions will be shifting from 4-7pm to 3-6pm on Wednesdays This means less time picking up in the dark in the winter time! The Annapolis pick up will now be from 10-12 noon instead of the current 9-12 on Saturdays. While these changes may seem small, they will make a big impact for us on the farm.
3) We will be offering only Whole Chicken Shares (as opposed to the cut-up option) this winter. Our Chicken Share availability will be VERY limited this season. We will take registrations first come-first served. If we receive payment for any shares that we cannot fill, we will refund the amount and put you on a waiting list in case we have any more openings.
We are offering a 5% discount for registrations received prior to October 1st and paid in full. However, keep in mind that shares are limited and will be filled on a first come-first served basis. Sign up early to ensure your spot.
