We are into the fall race now. We are racing right now to get all of our sweet potatoes and winter squash out of the fields before we get some very cold nights this weekend. As I write this everyone else is out in the sweet potatoes picking them up and dumping them into pallet bins. We are also anticipating some rain tomorrow so I am going to go out and seed the first greenhouse full of winter spinach after I write this. This greenhouse has been sans plastic all summer. We will be putting plastic on it soon but for now we are taking advantage of that so we can water the spinach seeds with the rain instead of having to use irrigation.
I am finally giving you a break with the peppers although I could not help but harvest more eggplant, as we may be finally seeing the end of it this weekend with the cold weather. We also have more greens and though the cold weather stresses us out as we think of the things that could die, it also sweetens kale, carrots, beets and other things, as they receive a message to store up more sugar in order to survive the cold. So we are looking forward to sweeter veggies as we finally say goodbye to the summer ones.
